about the artist
My name is Laura Botak, ATR -
I'm a registered art therapist working in the city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I grew up here on a street called Sunnyhill. I've come to realize that no matter where I live, I find myself feeling the most at home while making art.
Art has shown me a sense of peace & joy through every stage of life. As a child, I was gifted with friends and family who constantly encouraged me to create. In high school, my confidence grew with recognition as the "most artistic." During my college education, I learned some very important lessons about the meaning of talent.
My career as an art therapist began at Seton Hill University where I earned my M.A. in Art Therapy with a Specialization in Counseling. While studying there, I developed my naturalistic style by symbolizing moments from my daily experiences.
Presently, I practice art therapy with survivors of traumatic interpersonal violence. I believe that art holds space for introspection, and healing comes from within.
Thanks for stopping by and holding space with me.
